Comparar resultados

Matiza cuánto ha cambiado algo.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
The new query is significantly faster than the old one.
Memory usage is slightly higher, but still within limits.
It's nowhere near as slow as it used to be.Ya no es ni de lejos tan lento como antes.

Gramática · Comparativos con modificadores

much / far / significantly / slightly / a bit + comparativo · not nearly as… as

Cold starts are far shorter now, but the bundle is slightly bigger.

💡 No se dice “very faster”: very no va con comparativos. Usa much faster o far faster.

Así lo dirías

Mark: How did the database migration affect performance?

Tú: Queries are much faster now, roughly twice as fast as before.

Much faster, no “very more fast”.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
The more users we have, the slower the dashboard gets.
The bottleneck is the database, not the API.El cuello de botella es la base de datos, no la API.
Most of the time is spent serialising the response.

The + comparativo + sujeto + verbo, the + comparativo + sujeto + verbo

The bigger the payload, the longer it takes to parse.

💡 Spend time + -ing: most of the time is spent waiting for the database.

Así lo dirías

Sarah: Why does the reports page get so slow at the end of the month?

Tú: The more reports there are, the slower the query gets. The bottleneck is the database: most of the time is spent scanning the orders table.

The more…, the slower…

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
We could get the images resized at upload time.
If we added an index, the query should drop to a few milliseconds.
I'd rather fix the query than add more servers.

have/get + algo + participio · I'd rather + verbo + than + verbo

Have/get something done: hacer que algo se haga (por otro sistema o persona). I'd rather… than… compara dos opciones.

Let's get the reports generated overnight instead of on demand.

💡 I'd rather va con verbo base, sin to: I'd rather cache it than recompute it.

Así lo dirías

Mark: The search is too slow. Should we just add more servers?

Tú: I'd rather optimise the query first. If we added an index, search should be much faster, and it would cost us nothing.

I'd rather + verbo para comparar opciones. An index (vocal).

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Since we shipped the fix, error rates have dropped by half.
Load time went down from three seconds to under one.
Our cloud bill has fallen by around twenty percent.

go up/down, rise, drop, fall + by (la diferencia) · from… to… (los valores)

By indica cuánto cambió; from… to…, los valores de antes y después.

Latency has dropped by 60% since we moved to the new region.

💡 “Dropped in 30%” es un error: dropped by 30%.

Así lo dirías

Priya: Can you summarise the results of the performance sprint for the newsletter?

Tú: Since the performance sprint, page load has dropped from three seconds to about one, a 60% improvement.

From… to… para los valores y by o “a 60% improvement” para el porcentaje. Present perfect con since.

Explicar a negocio

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Pages load twice as fast, which means fewer people give up at checkout.
We optimised the images so that the app works well on slow connections.
In practical terms, it saves us around two thousand euros a month.

…, which means (that)… · so that + sujeto + can/will · in practical terms

“So that” explica la finalidad.

The search is 3× faster, which means support handles tickets more quickly.

💡 Which se refiere a toda la frase anterior: “The page is faster, which means…”.

Así lo dirías

Priya: Our CEO asks why we spent a sprint on performance. What do you say?

Tú: The app now loads twice as fast on mobile, which means fewer people give up during sign-up. In practical terms, that's around five percent more customers a month.

Falta el sujeto en “now is fast”.

Repaso: rendimiento

Comparar, diagnosticar, proponer y contar resultados.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Let's measure it before we optimise anything.Midámoslo antes de optimizar nada.
That's a premature optimisation; it's not the bottleneck.
We should set a performance budget for every page.

much faster · the more…, the slower · I'd rather · dropped by/from…to · which means

The more we cache, the lower the bill, which means more budget for features.

Mark: Walk me through the last performance problem you solved.

Tú: The API was slow because of an N+1 query problem. We batched the queries and added a cache, and since then response times have dropped by about 70%.

Because of + sustantivo. Present perfect con since, y dropped by para el porcentaje. Nunca “very faster”.
