Frases clave

|---|---|
| I'm afraid that won't be possible by Friday. |
| I'd love to help, but my plate is full this week. |
| That's not something we can commit to right now. |
Gramática · Rechazar con suavidad
I'm afraid… · I'd love to, but… · That's not something we can…
I'm afraid we can't include it in this release.
Priya: Can you add the new filters before the demo tomorrow?
Tú: I'm afraid that's not realistic for tomorrow. I've got a lot on my plate, but I could have it ready by Thursday.
Proponer alternativas
Convierte un “no” en una propuesta.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| How about shipping a simpler version first? |
| What if we drop the export for now? |
| Another option would be to move the deadline. | Otra opción sería mover la fecha límite. |
Gramática · Proponer
How about + -ing? · What if we + presente? · Another option would be to + verbo
Tres fórmulas para proponer sin imponer. Cada una lleva una estructura distinta detrás.
How about splitting it into two releases?
¿Y si lo dividimos en dos releases?
💡 How about to ship… está mal: How about shipping…
Así lo dirías
Priya: We can't move the launch date. What can we do?
Tú: What if we cut the scope? For example, we could leave the reports for the next release.
Can va sin “to”. “What if we cut the scope?” es una propuesta clara y profesional.
Poner condiciones
Acepta, pero dejando claro qué necesitas.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| We can do it, provided that design is ready by Monday. |
| Only if we can skip the reporting part. |
| That works for us, on one condition. | Nos vale, con una condición. |
Gramática · Condiciones
provided (that) · as long as · only if · on condition that + presente
Todas introducen una condición necesaria. Provided that suena más formal; as long as, más conversacional.
We'll ship on time provided that nothing else comes up.
Provided that QA signs off.
Así lo dirías
Mark: Can your team support the new client from next month?
Tú: Yes, provided that we get another engineer on the team.
Después de if o provided that, presente: we get. “Provided that” suena más profesional.
Expresar preferencias
Di qué prefieres sin sonar inflexible.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| I'd rather delay it than ship something broken. | Prefiero retrasarlo a sacar algo roto. |
| I'd prefer to keep the old API for now. | Preferiría mantener la API antigua de momento. |
| Either option is fine with me. |
Gramática · Preferencias
I'd rather + verbo base (than…) · I'd prefer + to + verbo
Would rather va con verbo base, sin to. Would prefer lleva to. Las dos suenan educadas.
I'd rather wait a week than rush it.
💡 I'd rather not = prefiero no: I'd rather not touch the payment code this week.
Así lo dirías
Priya: Do you prefer a big launch or a gradual rollout?
Tú: I'd prefer a gradual rollout. I'd rather be careful than fix things in production.
“Prefer more” no es natural. Y would rather va sin to: I'd rather be careful.
Contar lo que se dijo
Transmite lo que acordaste con otra persona.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| The client said they needed it by March. |
| Mark asked if we could start earlier. | Mark preguntó si podíamos empezar antes. |
| She told me the budget was approved. | Me dijo que el presupuesto estaba aprobado. |
Gramática · Estilo indirecto
said (that) + pasado · asked if + pasado · told + persona + (that)
Al contar lo que alguien dijo, el verbo suele dar un paso atrás: need → needed, can → could, will → would.
He said the API would be ready on Monday.
💡 Say no lleva persona detrás (said that); tell sí (told me that). Nunca “said me”.
Así lo dirías
Sarah: What did the client agree to in the meeting?
Tú: The client told us they could wait until April.
Con persona: told us (no said me). Y en estilo indirecto, can pasa a could.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| I wanted to flag a risk early. | Quería avisar pronto de un riesgo. |
| We underestimated the complexity of the migration. | Subestimamos la complejidad de la migración. |
| Here's what I'd suggest. | Esto es lo que propondría. |
Gramática · Dar malas noticias bien
flag early → explain why → propose → ask for a decision
Cuanto antes avises, mejor.
I wanted to flag that we're behind. Here's what I'd suggest.
Quería avisar de que vamos con retraso. Esto es lo que propondría.
💡 “Flag” = señalar o avisar de algo: I wanted to flag that…
Así lo dirías
Priya: Are we still on track for the end of the month?
Tú: Not quite. The migration turned out to be more complex than expected, so we're about a week behind. I'd suggest moving the reports to the next release.
Explica la causa (“turned out to be more complex”) y cierra con una propuesta concreta.
