Contribuir a open source en inglés
Abrir issues, proponer cambios, responder a mantenedores y escribir buenos READMEs.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| I'm using version 4.2, which was released last week. |
| The bug only happens on Windows, which makes it hard to reproduce. |
| Happy to submit a PR if you agree with the approach. |
Gramática · Relativas explicativas
…, which / who + información extra (entre comas)
Añaden información extra que se podría quitar. Van entre comas y nunca con that. Which puede referirse a toda la frase anterior.
The parser fails on large files, which blocks our CI.
💡 “…, which means…” y “…, which makes it…” son muy útiles para explicar consecuencias.
Así lo dirías
Leo: You found a bug in a popular library. How do you describe it in the issue?
Tú: Uploading files over 100 MB fails with a timeout, which blocks our releases. I've put a minimal reproduction in this repo, and I'm happy to send a PR if you agree with the approach.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| Following the discussion in #412, this PR makes the timeout configurable. |
| Tested on Linux and macOS, the change doesn't affect existing users. |
| Having looked at the alternatives, I went with the simplest one.
Having profiled the code, I found the bottleneck in the parser.
💡 “Having tested it, the bug disappeared” es incorrecto: el bug no testeó. Lo correcto: Having tested it, I saw the bug disappear.
Así lo dirías
Sarah: Describe your pull request to the maintainers in two sentences.
Tú: Following the discussion in the issue, this PR adds an option to configure the timeout. Tested on macOS and Linux, it doesn't change the default behaviour.
Adds, con -s. An option.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| Good point, I've gone ahead and renamed it. | Buena observación, ya lo he renombrado. |
| I went with this approach because it avoids a breaking change. |
| Would you prefer I split this into two PRs? | ¿Preferís que lo divida en dos PR? |
Gramática · Responder con buen tono
Good point / Fair enough · I've gone ahead and + participio · Would you prefer I + verbo?
Agradece, di qué has hecho o explica tu razón. “I've gone ahead and…” indica que ya has aplicado el cambio.
Fair enough, I've gone ahead and added a test for that case.
💡 Would you prefer (that) I + verbo base: would you prefer I added a test? también se oye con pasado.
Así lo dirías
Priya: A maintainer says your PR is too big to review. How do you reply?
Tú: Fair enough, it is quite big. Would you prefer I split it into two PRs, one for the refactor and one for the new feature?
“More small” es smaller, y “all is necessary” suena defensivo.
Escribir el README
Instrucciones directas y ordenadas.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| Install the package with npm and import it in your app. |
| Make sure you're on Node 18 or later. | Asegúrate de tener Node 18 o superior. |
| Contributions are welcome; see CONTRIBUTING.md to get started. |
Gramática · Instrucciones
imperativo + objeto · make sure + frase · see / check + documento
Clone the repo, run npm install, and start the dev server.
💡 Evita “you should install”: en documentación, install a secas suena más claro.
Así lo dirías
Mark: Explain in a few steps how to get your project running locally.
Tú: Clone the repo, run npm install, copy .env.example to .env, and start it with npm run dev.
En instrucciones, imperativos cortos. Must sin to, y need to + verbo.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| You're supposed to open an issue before a big PR. |
| The bot is meant to label new issues automatically. |
| Be patient; maintainers are mostly volunteers. |
Gramática · Be supposed to / be meant to
be supposed to / be meant to + verbo
CI is supposed to run on every PR, but it wasn't meant to block drafts.
💡 “The release was supposed to be yesterday” implica que no salió.
Así lo dirías
Leo: A new contributor asks how your project works. Explain the main rules.
Tú: For anything big, you're supposed to open an issue first so we can agree on the approach. Every PR needs tests, and the CONTRIBUTING file has all the details.
Be supposed to suena más amable que must para las normas. Must sin to, y explicar el porqué (agree on the approach) ayuda.
Repaso: contribuir
Issue, PR, review, README y normas.
Frases clave
| Inglés | Español |
|---|---|
| Thanks for maintaining this project! | ¡Gracias por mantener este proyecto! |
| Let me know if there's anything else I can do. |
| I've rebased on main and resolved the conflicts. | He hecho rebase sobre main y he resuelto los conflictos. |
Gramática · Repaso de la unidad
, which… · Having + participio · I've gone ahead and… · imperativos · be supposed to
Having read CONTRIBUTING, I've opened an issue first, which is how you're supposed to start.
💡 Empezar o terminar con “Thanks for maintaining this” no cuesta nada y se agradece mucho.
Así lo dirías
Priya: Tell me about a contribution you made, or would like to make, to an open-source project.
Tú: I found a bug in a date library we use, which was breaking our reports. I opened an issue with a minimal reproduction, sent a PR, and having made the changes they asked for, it got merged.
Una relativa con which añade la consecuencia. Accepted en pasado. Contar el proceso (issue, reproducción, PR) suena profesional.
