Dar y seguir instrucciones técnicas en inglés

Entender y dar pasos: instalar, configurar y usar herramientas.

Paso a paso

Entiende y da instrucciones sencillas.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Open the terminal and type this command.Abre la terminal y escribe este comando.
Click on “Settings” at the top.Haz clic en “Ajustes” arriba.
Don't close the window. No cierres la ventana.

Gramática · Imperativo

verbo base (Open…) · Don't + verbo (Don't close…)

Open the app, click on your profile and don't forget to save.

💡 Click on + elemento: click on the button. Type + texto: type “npm install”.

Así lo dirías

Leo: How do I change my password in the app?

Tú: Go to Settings, click on “Password” and type the new one.

Para instrucciones, imperativo sin “you”. Click on (no in) y type para escribir.

Ordenar los pasos

Usa conectores para ordenar instrucciones.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
First, download the installer.Primero, descarga el instalador.
Then, restart your computer.Luego, reinicia el ordenador.
Finally, log in with your email.Por último, entra con tu email.

Gramática · Conectores de secuencia

First, · Then, · After that, · Next, · Finally,

First, clone the repo. Then, install the packages. Finally, run the app.

Primero, clona el repo. Luego, instala los paquetes. Por último, arranca la app.

💡 No digas “at the end” para el último paso: lo natural es finally.

Así lo dirías

Mark: Explain how to make coffee with the office machine, step by step.

Tú: First, put a cup under the machine. Then, press the big button. Finally, wait a few seconds and take your coffee.

Conectores de secuencia (first, then, finally) e imperativos sin “you”. At the end no se usa para el último paso.

Pronombres en instrucciones

No repitas el nombre: usa pronombres.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Download the file and open it.Descarga el archivo y ábrelo.
Check the logs and send them to me.Revisa los logs y mándamelos.
Can you show me?¿Me lo enseñas?

Gramática · Pronombres de objeto

it (singular) · them (plural) · me · us · him · her

Para no repetir algo, usa it (una cosa) o them (varias). Van detrás del verbo: open it, send them.

Find the screenshots and send them to me.

Busca las capturas y mándamelas.

💡 En inglés no se juntan en una palabra como en español: “mándamelo” es send it to me.

Así lo dirías

Sarah: I need the logs from your laptop. How do I get them?

Tú: Open the logs folder, copy them and send them to me.

Los logs son plural: copy them, send them to me. “The logs folder”: el sustantivo que describe va delante.

Si pasa algo

Da instrucciones para cuando algo sale mal.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
If it doesn't work, restart the app.Si no funciona, reinicia la app.
If you see an error, take a screenshot.Si ves un error, haz una captura.
If you have questions, ask in the channel.Si tienes preguntas, pregunta en el canal.

Gramática · If + imperativo

If + presente, + imperativo

If the page is blank, clear your cache.

Priya: What should a new colleague do if they can't log in?

Tú: If you can't log in, reset your password. If that doesn't work, write in the IT channel.

Para instrucciones: if + presente, imperativo. Must no lleva to.

Entender una guía

Lee instrucciones escritas y encuentra lo importante.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Make sure you have Node installed.Asegúrate de que tienes Node instalado.
This step can take a few minutes.Este paso puede tardar unos minutos.
You only need to do this once.Solo tienes que hacer esto una vez.

Gramática · Frases típicas de una guía

Make sure… · You need to… · You only need to… once · This can take…

Las guías mezclan imperativos con frases como make sure (asegúrate) o you need to (tienes que).

Make sure Docker is running. You only need to do this once.

Asegúrate de que Docker está arrancado. Solo tienes que hacerlo una vez.

💡 Once = una vez. Twice = dos veces. Three times = tres veces.

Así lo dirías

Leo: I just cloned the project. What do I need to do now?

Tú: First, make sure Docker is running. Then, copy the env file, run npm install and, finally, npm run dev.

Need to + verbo. Ordena con first, then, finally, y usa make sure para lo que debe estar listo.

Repaso: instrucciones

Imperativos, orden, pronombres y condiciones.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
It's easier than it looks.Es más fácil de lo que parece.
Let me know if you get stuck.Avísame si te atascas.
Did it work?¿Ha funcionado?

Gramática · Repaso de la unidad

imperativo · first/then/finally · it/them · if + presente, imperativo · make sure

First, download the file. Then, open it. If it doesn't work, let me know.

Primero, descarga el archivo. Luego, ábrelo. Si no funciona, avísame.

💡 Termina con “Let me know if you get stuck”: anima a pedir ayuda.

Así lo dirías

Mark: Explain how to join the team's weekly video call.

Tú: First, open your calendar. Then, click on the weekly sync and press “Join”. If the link doesn't work, let me know.

Imperativos sin “you”, conectores de orden y click on (no in).
