Escribir un RFC en inglés

Escribir propuestas técnicas, matizar afirmaciones y rebatir objeciones.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
It would appear that most of the latency comes from serialisation.
This is arguably the simplest option we have.
To the best of my knowledge, no other team depends on this table.

It would appear / seem that… · arguably · tends to · to the best of my knowledge

Batch jobs tend to fail at month-end, which would suggest a capacity issue.

Priya: Is the new database the reason the API got faster?

Tú: It would appear so. Latency dropped right after the switch and nothing else changed, though I'd like another week of data before I say it for certain.

Sin pruebas completas, el matiz (it would appear) es más creíble que un 100 %. Mencionar qué datos faltan suena riguroso.

Nominalizar

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
The migration of legacy data will require a two-week freeze.
The introduction of a cache layer reduced database load significantly.
Adoption has been slower than expected.

verbo → sustantivo: migrate → migration, adopt → adoption, fail → failure

En textos formales se convierten acciones en sustantivos: “because we migrated” → “due to the migration”. Gana concisión y objetividad.

The removal of the old endpoint is planned for Q3.

Mark: Summarise the main risk of your proposal in one formal sentence.

Tú: The main risk is a temporary loss of login availability during the database cutover.

“Will not can” no existe.

Estructurar la propuesta

Guía al lector con conectores precisos.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Furthermore, the current design does not support multi-tenancy.Además, el diseño actual no admite multi-tenant.
Consequently, we propose moving to event sourcing.En consecuencia, proponemos pasar a event sourcing.
Nevertheless, this approach has two notable drawbacks.

Option A is cheaper, whereas option B scales better. Nevertheless, we recommend A for now.

💡 Consequently indica causa-efecto; however, solo contraste. No los intercambies.

Así lo dirías

Sarah: Briefly present the structure of your RFC: problem, proposal and main drawback.

Tú: Our logs are spread across four tools, which makes incidents slow to investigate. Consequently, we propose consolidating on a single platform. Nevertheless, it would increase our monthly costs by about fifteen percent.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
That's a fair concern; however, the risk is mitigated by the feature flag.
While I take your point about cost, the savings in engineering time are greater.
Granted, it adds complexity, but it removes a single point of failure.

That's a fair point; however… · While I take your point about X,… · Granted,… but…

Granted, the rewrite will take longer; however, it eliminates a whole class of bugs.

Mark: I think your proposal is too risky for this quarter. Convince me otherwise.

Tú: That's a fair concern. However, we'd roll it out behind a flag, one team at a time, so the blast radius is small. On balance, I think the risk of staying on the old system is actually greater.

Recomendar y concluir

Cierra el documento con una propuesta clara.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
We recommend that the team adopt the new framework incrementally.
It is essential that every service be tested before the cutover.
On balance, option B offers the best trade-off.

recommend / suggest / insist that + sujeto + verbo base · it is essential / vital that + sujeto + verbo base

Tras estos verbos y expresiones, el inglés formal usa el verbo en su forma base, sin -s ni would: that the team adopt, that it be tested.

We recommend that each team migrate one service per sprint.

💡 En inglés británico también se acepta should: we recommend that the team should adopt…

Así lo dirías

Sarah: Give your final recommendation to the architecture board in one or two sentences.

Tú: On balance, we recommend option B, and we suggest that the team start the migration no later than June so it's done before peak season.

On balance + recommend/suggest that + verbo base suena formal y decidido. Must sin to.

Repaso: un RFC completo

Matizar, estructurar, rebatir y recomendar.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Feedback on this draft is very welcome.
This RFC is out of scope for the authentication changes.
Once approved, the decision will be recorded in an ADR.Una vez aprobada, la decisión se registrará en un ADR.

Gramática · Repaso de la unidad

it would appear · nominalización · consequently / nevertheless · granted… but · recommend that + base

It would appear that the outage was load-related; consequently, we recommend that autoscaling be enabled.

Mark: Pitch your RFC to the architecture board in under a minute.

Tú: Our logs live in four tools, which slows every investigation. We propose one platform; granted, it means a migration, but it should save about 20%. We recommend that work start next quarter.

“A disaster” no es argumento: da datos. Granted… but anticipa la objeción y recommend that + base cierra con una petición clara.
