Frases clave

InglésEspañol
It'll take me about two days to finish the API.Me llevará unos dos días terminar la API.
How long will it take to migrate the data?¿Cuánto llevará migrar los datos?
The review usually takes less than an hour.

Gramática · It takes + tiempo

It takes (me) + tiempo + to + verbo

Para hablar de cuánto dura algo. El sujeto es it, y la persona va detrás de take.

It takes about ten minutes to run all the tests.

💡 No digas “I take two days”: lo natural es it takes me two days.

Así lo dirías

Mark: How long do you think the login refactor will take?

Tú: I think it'll take me about a week to do it.

It'll take me + tiempo + to + verbo. “More or less” se dice about, y nunca for + verbo.

Qué tan seguro estás

No prometas lo que no sabes.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
We'll probably finish by Friday.Probablemente terminaremos para el viernes.
It might take longer if the API changes.
I definitely won't have it ready today.Seguro que hoy no lo tengo listo.

Gramática · Grados de certeza

will definitely › will probably › might › probably won't › definitely won't

Will para lo que ves seguro; might para lo posible. Probably y definitely matizan.

We might need another sprint for the tests.

I probably won't…

Así lo dirías

Sarah: Will the dashboard be ready for the demo on Thursday?

Tú: Probably, but we might not finish all the charts in time.

“Will can't” no existe: usa might not o won't be able to.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Can you send me the estimate by tomorrow?¿Me puedes mandar la estimación para mañana?
I'm on the migration until Wednesday.Estoy con la migración hasta el miércoles.
We need a fix within the next 24 hours.Necesitamos un arreglo en las próximas 24 horas.

Gramática · By, until y within

Please review it by Thursday; I'm off until Monday.

💡 “I'll finish it until Friday” es un error clásico. Con un plazo, by Friday.

Así lo dirías

Mark: When can you deliver the first version?

Tú: I can deliver it by next Tuesday. I'm working on it until Monday.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
It depends on how quickly we get the API keys.
We'll make it, as long as the scope doesn't change.Llegaremos, siempre que no cambie el alcance.
Let's add an extra day in case the tests fail.Añadamos un día extra por si fallan los tests.

Gramática · Condiciones y precauciones

depend on + algo · as long as + presente · in case + presente

Depend on lleva on siempre. As long as es “siempre que”.

We'll ship on Monday as long as QA signs it off.

💡 “It depends of” es un error típico: siempre depends on.

Así lo dirías

Mark: Is there anything that could delay the launch?

Tú: It depends on the other team. As long as they finish the API, we'll make it on time.

Depends on. Después de as long as/if, presente (finish). “Llegar a tiempo” es make it on time.

Avisar de un retraso

Avisa pronto, explica por qué y propone algo.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
I'm afraid we're not going to make the deadline.
We're running about two days behind schedule.Vamos unos dos días retrasados.
I wanted to flag it early so we can adjust the plan.

am/is/are + going to + verbo

Cuando tienes evidencias de que algo va a pasar, going to suena más natural que will.

Looking at the board, we're going to need one more week.

Sarah: How's the mobile release looking?

Tú: I'm afraid we're going to miss the date. We need two more days, so I wanted to flag it early.

Repaso: estimaciones

Tiempo, certeza, plazo, riesgos y avisos.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
My rough estimate is a week and a half.Mi estimación aproximada es semana y media.
I'd rather give you a range than a single date.
I'll update the estimate once I've looked at the code.

it takes · might/probably · by/until · as long as/in case · going to

It'll probably take three days, as long as the specs don't change.

💡 Si no estás seguro, da un rango: “between three and five days”.

Así lo dirías

Mark: Give me an estimate for the new search feature.

Tú: My rough estimate is two weeks, but it might take longer. It depends on the backend work.

Para el futuro, it'll take o “my estimate is”. Might para lo posible, y depends on.
