Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Can you help me with this error?¿Me puedes ayudar con este error?
Could you show me how to run the tests?¿Me podrías enseñar cómo pasar los tests?
May I ask a quick question?¿Puedo hacer una pregunta rápida?

Gramática · Peticiones con can, could y may

Can you + verbo? · Could you + verbo? (más educado) · May I + verbo? (más formal)

Can es directo y normal entre compañeros. Could suena más educado. May I se usa para pedir permiso, sobre todo en situaciones formales.

Could you send me the link, please?

¿Me podrías mandar el enlace, por favor?

💡 Añade “please” al final y una razón: “Could you help me, please? I'm stuck.”

Así lo dirías

Leo: You're stuck with an error. Ask Leo for help.

Tú: Hi Leo, could you help me, please? I've got an error I don't understand.

Las peticiones necesitan can/could: could you help me? An error, porque empieza por vocal.

No entiendo

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Sorry, could you say that again?Perdona, ¿puedes repetirlo?
Could you speak a bit more slowly, please?¿Podrías hablar un poco más despacio, por favor?
What does “deploy” mean?¿Qué significa “deploy”?

Gramática · Pedir aclaraciones

Could you say that again? · Could you speak more slowly? · What does X mean? · How do you spell it?

Sorry, what does “flaky” mean?

Perdona, ¿qué significa “flaky”?

💡 What does X mean? (no “what means X”). El auxiliar does va siempre.

Así lo dirías

Sarah: Sarah says something very fast that you don't understand. What do you say?

Tú: Sorry, I didn't catch that. Could you say it again a bit more slowly?

“I no understand” es incorrecto. “I didn't catch that” es muy natural, y could you… suena educado.

Explicar el problema

Cuenta qué intentas hacer y qué falla.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
I'm trying to install the app, but it doesn't work.
I get an error when I click “Save”.Me sale un error cuando hago clic en “Guardar”.
I don't know where to find the file.No sé dónde encontrar el archivo.

Gramática · Explicar lo que intentas

I'm trying to + verbo, but… · I get an error when… · I don't know where/how to…

I'm trying to log in, but I get an error.

Leo: What's the problem with your setup?

Tú: I'm trying to install Docker, but I get a red error message when I start it.

I'm trying to + verbo. “Me sale un error” es I get an error, no “appear an error”.

Ofrecer ayuda

Ofrece ayuda a tus compañeros.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Do you need a hand?¿Necesitas una mano?
Shall I share my screen?¿Comparto mi pantalla?
I can show you if you want.Te lo puedo enseñar si quieres.

Gramática · Ofrecer ayuda

Do you need a hand? · Shall I + verbo? · I can + verbo + if you want · Let me + verbo

Shall I…? ofrece hacer algo. I can… if you want es una oferta suave. Let me… cuando ya vas a hacerlo.

Shall I share my screen? I can show you the steps.

Priya: A new colleague can't find the documentation. Offer to help.

Tú: Do you need a hand? I know where it is. Shall I send you the link?

“You want I help you?” no es correcto: Do you need a hand? / Shall I…? En pregunta indirecta: where it is.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
Thanks for helping me with the setup.Gracias por ayudarme con la configuración.
That was really helpful, thank you.Me ha ayudado mucho, gracias.
No worries, any time!No te preocupes, ¡cuando quieras!

Gramática · Agradecer

Thanks for + -ing / sustantivo · That was really helpful · You're welcome / No worries

Ser concreto (“thanks for explaining the tests”) suena más sincero.

Thanks for explaining it so clearly!

¡Gracias por explicarlo tan bien!

💡 “No worries” y “Any time” son respuestas informales muy comunes a un “thanks”.

Así lo dirías

Mark: Mark spent an hour helping you set up your laptop. Thank him.

Tú: Thanks so much for helping me with the setup, Mark. That was really helpful!

Thanks for + -ing (helping).

Pedir, aclarar, explicar, ofrecer y agradecer.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
I'm stuck. Have you got five minutes?Estoy atascado. ¿Tienes cinco minutos?
Let me check and get back to you.Déjame mirarlo y te digo.
Don't worry, it happens to everyone.

Could you…? · What does X mean? · I'm trying to… but… · Shall I…? · Thanks for + -ing

Pedir ayuda bien es: pregunta educada, explicar qué intentas y qué falla, y agradecer después.

I'm stuck. Could you help me? I'm trying to run the app, but it crashes.

Estoy atascado. ¿Me podrías ayudar?

Leo: You can't start the project locally. Ask Leo for help and explain the problem.

Tú: Hi Leo, I'm stuck. I'm trying to start the project locally, but I get an error. Could you help me for a few minutes?

I'm stuck + qué intentas (I'm trying to…) + qué pasa + una petición con could you…?
