Frases clave

InglésEspañol
I'm a bit tired today.Hoy estoy un poco cansado.
I'm really excited about the new project.Estoy muy ilusionado con el proyecto nuevo.
I'm quite busy this week.Esta semana estoy bastante liado.

Gramática · Estados con be

I'm + (a bit / quite / really) + adjetivo

Para estados de ánimo se usa be + adjetivo: I'm tired, I'm happy. A bit, quite y really cambian la intensidad.

I'm really happy with the results, but a bit nervous about the demo.

💡 Excited (ilusionado) no significa “excitado”. Es una palabra muy común y positiva.

Así lo dirías

Leo: Hey, how are you doing today?

Tú: Not bad, thanks! A bit stressed, to be honest. We've got a big release on Friday.

Frases clave

InglésEspañol
I've got a bad cold.Tengo un resfriado fuerte.
I don't feel very well today.Hoy no me encuentro muy bien.
I've got a headache.Me duele la cabeza.

Gramática · Hablar de salud

I've got a + cold/headache/fever · I feel + adjetivo · I don't feel well

Para enfermedades comunes: I've got a… Para cómo te encuentras: I feel… / I don't feel well.

I've got a fever, so I don't feel well enough to work.

💡 “I'm sick” en inglés americano significa estar enfermo; en británico se dice más “I'm ill” o “I'm off sick”.

Así lo dirías

Mark: You sound terrible! Are you OK?

Tú: Not really. I've got a bad cold and a sore throat.

El adjetivo va delante: a bad cold. “Me duele la garganta” es I've got a sore throat.

InglésEspañol
I won't be able to work today.Hoy no voy a poder trabajar.
I'm off sick, but I'll check Slack later.
Leo can cover my tasks.Leo puede cubrir mis tareas.

Gramática · No poder

I won't be able to + verbo · I'm off sick · I can't make it to…

Won't be able to = no voy a poder (futuro). Can't make it to = no puedo ir a (una reunión, un evento).

I won't be able to join the daily; I'm off sick today.

💡 “I can't make it to the meeting” es la forma más natural de decir que no irás.

Así lo dirías

Sarah: You wake up with a fever. Send a voice message to your manager.

Tú: Hi Sarah, I'm sorry but I'm off sick today, I've got a fever. I won't be able to join the daily, but Leo can cover my tasks.

Can't o won't be able to (nunca “don't can”). Decir quién te cubre ayuda al equipo.

Gramática · Pedir días libres

Can I take + día + off? · Would it be OK if I + pasado? · I'd like to book…

Take a day off = cogerse un día libre. Would it be OK if I + pasado suena muy educado.

Would it be OK if I took Monday off? I've got a family event.

¿Te parece bien si me cojo el lunes libre? Tengo un evento familiar.

💡 Day off (día libre) se separa: take Monday off, a day off.

Así lo dirías

Mark: You need next Thursday off for a family event. Ask Mark.

Tú: Hi Mark, would it be OK if I took next Thursday off? I've got a family event.

“I want” suena brusco. Would it be OK if I took… es muy educado. Take + día + off.

I'm sorry to hear that. Get well soon and don't worry about the release.

💡 I'm sorry to hear that = siento oír eso.

Tú: Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that! Get well soon, and don't worry about the review, I'll take it.

I'm feeling much better. Thanks for covering for me yesterday!

Me encuentro mucho mejor. ¡Gracias por cubrirme ayer!

💡 Al volver, “Thanks for covering for me” es un detalle que el equipo agradece.

Así lo dirías

Leo: Welcome back! Are you feeling better?

Tú: Yes, much better, thanks! And thank you for covering for me while I was off.

Better (no “more good”). Thank you for + -ing; cover for someone es la expresión exacta.
